Eight players from the Winthrop Eagles women’s lacrosse team scored as they defeated Austin Peay 17-6 on March 14 at Morgan Bros. Field in Clarksville, Tennessee.

The game saw a strong start from Winthrop, with Emily Hollinger opening the scoring less than three minutes into the first quarter. The Eagles quickly built a lead, with goals from Iannotti, Ava-Claire Collins, Christina Warren, and Gabby Pierpont pushing the score to 5-0 before Austin Peay responded. By the end of the first quarter, Winthrop led 6-1.

In the second quarter, Paton extended the lead with a free-position goal before Austin Peay’s Katie Ferrara answered. However, Warren restored Winthrop’s six-goal cushion just seconds later. The Eagles then went on a three-goal run with contributions from Hollinger, Manderano, and Collins. Calabrese added another goal before halftime to give Winthrop a commanding 12-3 advantage at the break.

The third quarter continued in similar fashion as Iannotti scored twice more and Hollinger completed her hat trick. Calabrese also converted a man-up opportunity to make it 16-3—the largest lead of the game for Winthrop.

Austin Peay managed two power-play goals early in the fourth quarter after green cards were issued to Kamryn Davis and Danielle Iadanza of Winthrop. Schwab scored both for Austin Peay before Manderano and Ferrara closed out the scoring for each side.

Iannotti finished with four goals on five shots and two draw controls while Hollinger was perfect on her three attempts across three quarters. Collins contributed two goals and two assists. Mikaylah Lindsay played over half of the game in net for Winthrop with four saves before Emma Calhoun and Susan Kirchoff finished out the match.

Winthrop will remain in Clarksville for their next game against Iona on Tuesday.
