Ralph Norman, U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 5th district since 2017, posted a series of statements on his social media account in August 2025 addressing energy policy, sanctuary cities, and a recent court ruling involving New York Attorney General Letitia James.

On August 19, Norman wrote: “This summer, the @freedomcaucus fought to END the Green New Scam’s market-distorting subsidies. America deserves an all-of-the-above energy strategy, NOT Washington picking winners and losers!!”

The following day, he commented on legislation regarding sanctuary cities: “Proud to cosponsor this legislation to protect innocent lives that should never have been lost. Sanctuary cities protect illegal criminals, not law-abiding Americans. How many more families need to suffer before we say enough?!” This post reflected ongoing debates about local policies toward undocumented immigrants.

On August 21, Norman responded to legal developments in New York: “Looks like Leticia James’s witch hunt is finally over. The New York appellate court ruling is a welcome check on government overreach.”

Norman has served in Congress since replacing Mick Mulvaney in 2017 and previously represented his area in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2005 to 2017. Born in Rock Hill, South Carolina in 1953, Norman continues to reside there and graduated from Presbyterian College with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1975.
