U.S. Congressman Ralph Norman, who represents South Carolina’s 5th district, posted a series of statements on social media between August 24 and August 25, 2025, addressing both public safety concerns at the University of South Carolina (USC) and recent legislative actions on tax policy.

On August 24, Norman called for community support in response to an incident at USC: “Join me in praying for the safety of all students, faculty, and staff. https://t.co/PDvSDYpb5Y”. The following day, he expressed gratitude to emergency personnel involved in managing the situation: “Thank you to the law enforcement officers and first responders whose swift action at USC today brought calm during a tense situation. Elaine and I are grateful no threat was found and lift up the USC community in prayers for safety. https://t.co/fBctYyILxJ”.

Later on August 25, Norman addressed federal tax policy by referencing recent legislative developments: “The One Big Beautiful Bill stopped a $1,700 tax hike in its tracks. Families deserve relief, not higher taxes and that’s exactly what President Trump and Republicans delivered. https://t.co/OPF82Qvv3I”.

Norman has represented South Carolina’s 5th District in Congress since 2017 after previously serving over a decade in the state House of Representatives. He was born in Rock Hill, South Carolina in 1953 and continues to reside there. Norman is an alumnus of Presbyterian College, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1975.
