Rep. Ralph Norman, a U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 5th district since 2017, recently posted several statements on his Twitter account addressing law enforcement issues, committee appointments, and international security concerns.

On January 9, 2026, Norman commented on an incident involving Border Patrol agents in Portland, writing: “They weren’t just ‘two people.’ They were two CRIMINAL ILLEGAL ALIENS who attacked Border Patrol agents in Portland. NOT an innocent ‘married couple.’ The facts matter. Violence against law enforcement will not be tolerated!!”

Later that day, Norman congratulated a colleague on a new leadership role within the House of Representatives: “Congrats to my good friend and now @DOGECommittee Chairman!!!” (January 9, 2026).

In another post made the same evening, Norman addressed foreign policy and national security concerns related to Venezuela’s government under Nicolás Maduro: “When a hostile, corrupt regime collapses a country, aligns with our enemies, and exports chaos, it becomes a national security issue whether a shot is fired or not. After many briefings on the operation, one thing remains clear. Maduro is a drug kingpin thug.” (January 9, 2026).

Norman has represented South Carolina’s 5th District in Congress since succeeding Mick Mulvaney in 2017 and previously served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2005 to 2017. Born in Rock Hill in 1953 and currently residing there at age 69, Norman graduated from Presbyterian College with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1975.
