Rep. Ralph Norman, who represents South Carolina’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed several issues through posts on his social media account, focusing on government funding, tax relief for families in South Carolina, and congressional pay during shutdowns.
On November 4, 2025, Norman commented on legislative voting related to federal funding: “The radical left is choosing to vote against funding 42 million SNAP recipients and our military who put their lives on the line every day. Only Washington Democrats would call that strategy.”
A day later, Norman highlighted recent tax changes affecting families in his state. On November 5, he wrote: “Just 10 months in and SC families keep more of what they earn. No tax on tips and real middle-class relief. More money at the kitchen table. Thank you @POTUS!!”
Later that same day, Norman addressed congressional compensation during government shutdowns: “It’s unconscionable for politicians to get backpay during a shutdown when hundreds of families aren’t getting paid. While hardworking Americans are tightening their belts, Congress shouldn’t be insulated from the very consequences it created.”
Norman has represented South Carolina’s 5th District since winning a special election in 2017 after Mick Mulvaney vacated the seat. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2005 to 2017 and previously graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Presbyterian College in 1975. Born in Rock Hill in 1953, Norman continues to reside there as part of his long-standing connection to the community.
