Rep. Ralph Norman, a U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 5th district since 2017, posted a series of statements on social media this week highlighting recent federal budget cuts, economic indicators under President Trump, and law enforcement actions in Washington, D.C.

On August 12, Norman announced what he described as a fiscal achievement: “$9B in DOGE cuts is a win. Now, let’s keep cutting until Washington stops wasting your money!” (August 12, 2025).

Later that day, Norman commented on the state of the economy under President Trump: “Another month, another WIN for the American people under President Trump.

Inflation low & stable at 1.9%
Real wages up 1.3%
Gas prices down nearly 10%
Small biz optimism at 5-month high

Democrats were wrong — America First is Making America Wealthy Again!!” (August 12, 2025).

The following morning, Norman addressed crime reduction efforts in the nation’s capital: “President Trump said he’d crack down on crime and he’s wasting no time.

23 arrests in D.C. on day one.

Law & order will be restored.” (August 13, 2025).

Norman has served as the representative for South Carolina’s 5th District since succeeding Mick Mulvaney in Congress in 2017. Before his tenure in Congress, he was a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2005 to 2017. Born and residing in Rock Hill, South Carolina since his birth in 1953, Norman graduated from Presbyterian College with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1975.
