Rep. Ralph Norman, a U.S. Congressman representing South Carolina’s 5th district since 2017, has recently taken to social media to voice his concerns on issues ranging from homeland security funding to tax policy and surveillance reform.

On April 16, 2026, Norman criticized Democratic lawmakers for their stance on border security and federal funding. He wrote, “The AUDACITY Democrats have to refuse to fund our homeland security after the Biden-Harris administration REFUSED to CLOSE our borders is INSANITY !! 10 million encounters across America’s borders was a catastrophe. Never again.”

Later that same day, Norman commented on tax legislation, stating that every Democrat had opposed certain tax cuts. He posted, “Every SINGLE Democrat voted AGAINST giving tax cuts to hardworking families. Yesterday on Tax Day, we remembered the job creators, small business owners, and entrepreneurs. BIGGER refunds and BIGGER paychecks for YOU!!”

On April 17, Norman addressed ongoing debates about government surveillance powers under FISA Section 702. He noted flaws in the law and cautioned against extending it without reforms: “We’ve known FISA Section 702’s flaws for years. A rushed extension without real reform won’t restore trust. Congress ought to get this right to protect national security and uphold Fourth Amendment rights. Both are possible.”

Norman has served in Congress since replacing Mick Mulvaney in 2017 and previously held office in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2005 to 2017. Born in Rock Hill in 1953, he continues to reside there and holds a degree from Presbyterian College earned in 1975.
