Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office issued the following announcement on July 14.
During the South Carolina Sheriffs’ Association Annual Conference Awards Banquet, Jail Director Shelia Gillespie Buckman was presented with the 2020 Detention Officer of the Year Award. Sheriff James Dixon nominated Buckman due to her response and support during the COVID-19 pandemic. The final decision was made by the forty six Sheriffs’ across the State of South Carolina.
From the beginning, Director Buckman was able to help supply the Detention Center and the Sheriff’s Office with needed supplies. She implemented COVID-19 measures within the Detention Center and was able to isolate the first cases of COVID at the facility.
Sheriff James Dixon was only able to submit one name for this award, but it took the entire Chesterfield County Detention Center staff working together during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Help us in congratulating Director Sheila Buckman and the Detention Center Staff for receiving this great honor.
