Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office issued the following announcement on August 7.

Sandhill Volunteer Fire Department raised the flag and stood in the rain to pay respect to James Daniel “Jimmy” Coombes.  Sumter County Sheriff’s Office helped with the service at the memorial service and graveside.  The Town of Jefferson displayed his picture as we drove by to his final resting place.

The ladies of the Chesterfield County Law Enforcement Wives Group made phone calls to local businesses for donations so that deputies could be fed after the service.  Special thanks to Country Kitchen, Beasley’s, Ronnie Campbell, The PaperHouse, Oslo’s, Nestle Water, Lisa Gibson, The Shed, Beth’s, Louise Brigman, Coroner Kip Kiser, and Hidden Treasure for making this possible.  Thank you to Pageland Police Department, Chesterfield Police Department, Cheraw Police Department, and South Carolina Highway Patrol for covering calls during the service so that our employees could pay their respect.  Thank you to Darlington County Sheriff’s Office for covering courthouse security.

I am forever grateful for the 20 years of memories that I have with my friend, Jimmy.  Thank you to his family for sharing him with me and our community.  To the citizens of Chesterfield County, thank you for the love and prayers that we have felt during this difficult time.

Sheriff James A. Dixon
