Cheraw South Carolina issued the following announcement on November 18.
The Town of Cheraw wishes to issue a clarification regarding this year's Christmas Parade.
The Christmas Parade historically takes 5-6 months of planning; securing floats and obtaining sponsors. When the planning would have been in full swing, the Delta variant of COVID-19 was reaching new peaks. At that time, the Town of Cheraw and the parade organizer felt that the safe option would be to cancel the Christmas Parade in a joint decision. The Town of Cheraw always puts the health and safety of residents first. As cases associated with the Delta variant subsided, it became apparent that the Town could begin to safely hold events, bringing about the 2021 Jazz Festival in a modified format due to the tight planning schedule. We also have the ChristmasFest and the Cheraw Lantern Parade in several weeks which has a relatively short planning time.
The Town is pleased that a Citizen's Committee has formed to plan a Christmas Parade and will support their efforts with personnel, financial support, and promotional support.
