Zero-Waste Crafting (Main Library - Rock Hill)

Learn how to repurpose plastic grocery bags into a sustainable crafting material and then weave your own zero-waste basket and watch the documentary Bag It: Is your Life too Plastic?!

Plastic yarn, or plarn, is created using plastic bags and can be used in a variety of ways, including crochet, knitting, and macrame. Use this material to create anything from bags, to throw rugs, to costumes! In our program, we will be using coil weaving techniques, to create a small basket completely out of used plastic bags

Program will include one hour of teaching time and one and a half hours of crafting time while we watch a documentary to learn more about the impacts of plastic waste on our environment. The documentary, Bag It: Is your Life too Plastic?, starts as a film about plastic bags and evolves into a wholesale investigation into plastic's effects on our oceans, environment, and bodies. We see how our crazy-for-plastic world has finally caught up to us… and what we can do about it!

Event limited to 12 participants.

Registration opens July 1st.

Event Type(s): Adult Event

Age Group(s): Adults
