*The city from which most of our newest students hail is…Columbia, South Carolina.

*Outside of South Carolina, the state that sent the most students to Winthrop is…North Carolina. 

*Within the contiguous United States, Mia Vrataric (undeclared) traveled the farthest to attend Winthrop, 2,151 miles from Newbury Park, California. 

*Outside of the U.S., Louie Danielson (mass communication) traveled 8,312 miles from Auckland, New Zealand. 

COOL NOTES 

*Rachel McCollum (biology) trained and competed at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado and played with USA Volleyball. The Memphis High School Sports Awards named her the 2022 Volleyball Player of the Year.

*Johntavia Shaw (sociology) holds state and national titles in shot put and discus, including top marks at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. 

*Lauryn McCoy (theatre) is a Kentucky Opry Junior Pro and a former Smoky Mountain Opry Rising Star. 

*Francisco Stadthagen (design) holds three nationalities: from the United States, Costa Rica and Nicaragua. 

*Kayleigh Moses (early childhood education) placed second overall in the state for agricultural education with the Future Farmers of America. She also helps grow Christmas Trees at Penland Tree Farm, owned by Steve ’71 and Judy Penland ’70, in York.

*Vincent Hazan (music performance) has performed at both Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Center.
