The Winthrop University track and field teams achieved several strong performances at the Winthrop Invitational and Multis, held at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Complex, according to an April 19 announcement.
The event saw multiple athletes secure high placements in both field and track events. Michael Boucher won the men’s 100 meters with a time of 10.53 seconds, which also placed him second in school history for that event. Boucher was part of the men’s 4×100 relay team—alongside Carlos Frank Jr., Tristen Patterson, and Shane King—that finished first with a time of 40.66 seconds, marking the second-best result ever recorded by Winthrop in this relay.
In field events, Maurion Jamison took second place in both the men’s long jump (6.81 meters) and triple jump (14.73 meters). Boyd Brackett earned third place in shot put (14.12 meters) and second place in javelin (54.63 meters), moving him to third on Winthrop’s all-time list for javelin distance. Timothy Speaks’ hammer throw mark of 48.81 meters ranked ninth all-time for the school, while Mills Sharpe followed closely behind at tenth with a throw of 47.58 meters.
Kennedi Sander reached second place on Winthrop’s records for women’s triple jump with an effort of 11.83 meters.
Other notable performances included Kevin Brown’s second-place finish in the men’s 100 meters (10.54 seconds) and his win in the men’s 200 meters (21.20 seconds). Jurnii Lucas claimed first place in the men’s 400 hurdles with a time of 53.04 seconds—third best historically for Winthrop—and Justin Powell posted a sixth-best mark for the same event at 53.91 seconds.
Reginald Grant and Carlos Frank Jr.’s times of 10.80 and 10.70 respectively placed them among Winthrop’s top ten performers in the men’s 100-meter dash; Jade Reese also entered school records by ranking sixth all-time in women’s 200 meters and fifth all-time in women’s 400 meters.
Looking ahead, “The Eagles will compete in the Duke Twilight on Sunday, May 3, at Morris Williams Stadium.”
